Location: East Thailand
Capital: Chanthaburi
Neighboring provinces: Five (5): Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Rayong, Sa Kaeo and Trat. It also borders to Cambodia.
Amphoe / Districts: Kaeng Hang Maeo, Khao Khitchakut, Khlung, Laem Sing, Makham, Mueang Chanthaburi, Na Yai Am, Pong Nam Ron, Soi Dao, Tha Mai.
Popular tourist destinations: Khao Khitchakut National Park, Khao Laem Sing Forest Park, Hat Ao Yang, Hat Laem Sadet, Hat Chao Lao, Hat Laem Sing, Wat Phlup and Wat Thong Thua.


About Chantaburi

245 kilometers east of Bangkok lie the coast province of Chantaburi or Muang Chan as the city is often called. Chantaburi River flows through its own province and along its river banks have traces of prehistoric civilizations been found. That Chantaburi is a coast province is reflected not least in the high proportion of fish and shellfish, which represents local population typical food and the restaurants menus.

The area is rich in natural resources and in addition to cultivation of fruits and crops can be found here plenty of gems and precious stones. Not far from the city, there are several calm beaches and fishing villages.

One of the population's most famous handicraft is the woven carpets which are on display at the city's markets.




Attractions

Khuk Khi Kai is a former notorious prison close to the coast at Laem beach and was used to imprison Thai resistance during the French occupation 1893. The seven-meter high wall is built of boulders whose sides measuring 4.4 meters across.

The Catholic Church can be found inside the city, near the river. The church was built in 1909 and is today the country's largest. The Church´s original ceiling was taken down during the Second World War to not attract bombers.

Fruit Festival is celebrated inside the city in mid-May. Apart from that there are a large number of exotic fruits and handicrafts for sale, also held a number of cultural performances.
