About Kanchanaburi
The province's capital, which also bears the name Kanchanaburi, is located about 130 kilometers northwest of Bangkok. The easiest way to get here is by train or bus and travel time is usually under three hours. Kanchanaburis nature is out of mountains, dense jungle, river area and several waterfalls.
Best known is still the province for a bridge that crosses the River Kwai. The film the Bridge over the River Kwai is about the allied prisoners of war during World War II were forced to build "the death railway" for the Japanese army. Lots of people died when the 415 kilometer-long route between Thailand and Burma was bulit. Near the bridge is also a war museum with a large collection of weapons and military equipment from the era.

Attractions
Bridge on the River Kwai is a famous steel brige built by Allied prisoners of war during World War II. Although the "appearance" is perhaps not as impressive, it is obviously an interesting attraction for historical reasons.
Bridge on the River Kwai week Festival with cultural activities is held annually in November and December. The festival is held to honor the dead men and as a historical reminder of the event.
Thungyai National Park is a unique and relatively unspoiled national park. The area stretches over the River Kwai and for those who want to stay overnight here theres no problem there are many bungalows for rent here.
Kanchanaburi war cemetery is a cemetery from World War II, who works as graveyard for the 6982 dead soldiers.
