About Lamphun
The small province of Lamphun, is located about 25 kilometers south of Chang Mai, and about 670 kilometer north of Bangkok. The railway between these major cities is drawn through Lamphun, which is the last (larger) city before Chang Mai.
One could say that it is the province's history, extending 1400 years back, that makes it worthwhile to add the name to your memory. The mon Kingdom steered to a top land area but was defeated in the late 1200s by the greater kingdom Lanna. In the province forest mountain landscape can you still find ruins of the prehistoric cities.
Today, Lamphun is a quiet town, whose population including producing fruit and cotton garments. Sculptures of soft wood are also common.
