During the Ayutthaya era, Nari the Great, made Lop Buri to the kingdoms second capital and gave, with the help of French architects, the city's buildings, a multi-cultural style. The project of urban construction was just one of king Nari's many collaborations with the Europeans and especially the French. King Nari's controversial foreign policy, help both Lopburi and Thailand with new modern technology. To honor the king a statue have been erected inside the city's main port. Today, several cities have grown up in the vicinity of Lopburi and the city's central location enables communication with the capital, as well as other surrounding region is operating smoothly. Bus from Bangkok and Ayutthaya depart frequently and the train between Bangkok and Chiang Mai is doing, after just over two hours, a stop in Lopburi.
