Mae Hong Son province

Capital: Mae Hong Sorn
Neighboring provinces: Two (2): Chiang Mai and Tak. It also borders to Myanmar (Burma).
Amphoe / Districts: Khun Yuam, Mae Hong Son, Mae La Noi, Mae Sariang, Pai, Pangmapha, Sop Moei.
Popular tourist destinations: Tham Lot Forest Park, Tham Pla Forest Park, Mae Ngao River, Mae Sam Laep, Pha Ma Lo Karen Village, Salawin National Park.


About Mae Hong Son

At the Myanmar border in northern Thailand you find the idyllic small town of Mae Hong Son. Mountains and some of Thailand's highest waterfalls is surrounding the city. The easiest way to get here from Bangkok, is to travel by bus or plane. Many passengers traveling through Chang Mai.

The climate varies from very hot, in extreme cases (in the other direction) zero-degree nights. April is statistically the hottest month while January is the best time to visit.

The province's population has previously lived isolated from the outside world for a long time and people come from a variety of ethnicity.

The province conducted training of working elephants. If your trekking trip starts from the city then you get to ride with the elephants. Fleet trips on the Pai river is also a popular activity among adventurer travelers . Some of these trips are made through the long-necked Paduang people's villages. The women here have since a young age extended their necks with the help of copper rings.




Attractions

Trekking in the province is a frequent activity. A wide range of more or less adventurous travel packages can be purchased at travel agencies, etc.

The temple Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu temple consists of two buildings in Burmese style. You find it in the city's western part.

Namtok Mae Surin is a hundred meter high waterfall located in a national park a few mils southwest of Mae Hong Song. Large flower fields surrounding the area and wild bears and deer's are present in the area.
