About Nakhon Pathom
The ancient cultural Nakhon Pathom belongs to the country's central region and is located approximately sixty kilometers west of Bangkok. The city was once Dvaravati-Empire Center, and it was here early Buddhism once wandered from India. The city was abandoned during the 1200s and the first when Rama the fifth ruled the country was the city renovated and a new Nakhon Pathom grew up.
Tha Chin River flows through the flat countryside and a visitor can choose to discover the province from any of the many long tail boats that makes daily trips on the river. In addition to the river shore banks, are there well-sized gardens and a variety of beautiful house in classical Thai style.
The province's Buddhist history has resulted in a large number of temples erected in the area over the years. One of the oldest and most well-known is Phra Pathom chedi, and is located inside the city. The dome-shaped building is one of the largest of its kind from the religious point of view, one of Thailand's most respected.

Attractions
Songkran is the Thai New Year and is celebrated around the high Phra Pathom Chedin in town. A large number of performances are on the schedule in this historic ceremony.
Don Wai market can be found next to the river in the area of Nakhon Chaisit, just east of the city itself. The people here have, despite the country's rapid development fought to preserve their traditional culture. Village customs are unique and the market offers a wide, for the region, unique food and handicraft products.
