Nong Khai province

Location: North-East Thailand (Isan)
Capital: Nong Khai
Neighboring provinces: Four (4): Loei, Nakhon Phanom, Sakon Nakhon and Udon Thani. It also borders to Laos.
Amphoe / Districts: Bueng Kan, Bueng Khong Long, Bung Khla, Fao Rai, Mueang Nong Khai, Pak Khat, Pho Tak, Phon Charoen, Phon Phisai, Rattanawapi, Sa Khrai, Sangkhom, Seka, Si Chiang Mai, Si Wilai, So Phisai, Tha Bo.
Popular tourist destinations: Luang Pho Phra Sai, Thai - Lao Friendship Bridge, Hot Chom Mani, Phrathat Bangphuan, Than Thip Waterfall, Than Thong Waterfall, Phu Tok and Wat Sala Kaew Goo.


About Nong Khai

The city of Nongkhai is situated right next to the border to Laos in northern Isan areas middle part. Maekong River forms a natural border between the countries and the landscape on the side of the river to the north Isan's typical river bank natural. About 20 kilometers from the city in the 1200 meters-long Thai-Lao friendship bridge connected countries.
Travelers who want to visit the neighboring country may also choose to cross the river by boat. In both cases, passport and visa should be carried.

The nature of the province's eastern part consists mainly of forested areas while the western part of which is mountainous and highland. Nongkhai has three main seasons, summer, winter and rainy season. During summertime, it is often very hot, while the temperature in winter sometimes go down to around ten degrees Celsius.

The province's typical craft consists of hand-woven textiles, wicker baskets and silver works.




Attractions

Tha sadet is the name of the pier where ferries to Laos departure. Alongside the pier is a great shopping area, which mainly sells goods and products from Laos.

Phu Tok is a lone hill with the temple Wat Phu Tok at its peak. A spiral staircase of wood leads a visitor all the way to the top. Construction of the original staircase is said to have taken a full five years.
