About Phang Nga
The scenic southwestern province of Phang Nga is best known for its spectacular islands and forests. From Phang Nga city Bangkok is it approximately 790 km north and the distance to the southern neighbors Phuket and Krabi are about 100 kilometers. The locals grow rice, fruit and vegetables here, but the rubber trees is the province's largest source of income (together with the tourism industry which has grown during the ninety and twenty-first century).
Phang Nga has several national parks and the most famous is Koh Similan islands and Khao Lak. Koh Similan has one of Thailand's best diving waters and the best season is considered to be between December and April. Boats from the mainland takes about three hours.
Khao Lak is located on the mainland and the popular tourist area was hit very hard by the tsunami. More than 4000 people died here on December 26 2004.
Another famous tourist attraction is the so-called James Bond Island. The unique shape of the island and its participants in the Man with the Golden Gun has done that many tourists wanted to visit the island. However, there are some who think that it almost should belong to the category of "tourist traps", even if the surroundings are very beautiful.
