About Phatthalung
Around 850 kilometers south of Bangkok you find the mountainous province of Phatthalung. The city with the same name, whose history stretches 600-700 years, was earlier under the rule of Nakhon Si Thammarat but in 1933 was Phatthalung upgraded to it´s own province. Just outside the town lies the Thalu rock Ok mountian. The mountains tops is visible in places far away and has become the city's sign and symbol.
Phatthalung, which has a long tradition of dance and theater, is considered to be the birth place of it, in Thailand, famous shadow theater. The very large Songkhla lake splits by a thin strip of land the city from the Siam bay in the east. The lake offers, in addition to freshwater bath, several nice beaches and accommodations in bungalows. The most popular beach called Saensuk Lampam and is located 10 kilometers outside the city. Buses and trains departing from the capital Bangkok regularly and have direct communication with the province. To reach the city by air, you need to take a bus from one of the neighboring provinces.

Attractions
Tham Malai is a cave system in the mountain Ok Thalu. White drip stone formations and clear water makes the cave worth a visit.
Thale noi festival is a one month long festival starting in mid-February. Long tail boats makes daily trips there, where the area's natural plant and animal life are among the attractions.
