About Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya
Ayutthaya, or Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, has a long and impressive history. Ayutthaya was once the capital of Thailand and in the 1700's counted on to one of the world's largest cities, with a population of around one million. The most spectacular is that almost the entire city's population was wiped out by the Burmese forces in 1767. Although the city is re-occupied and partially restored, can you see about three hundred of the ancient ruins here. The unique history has made that UNESCO classified the city and its immediate environs as a World Heritage Site.
Ayutthaya has several major temples and two museums. The province is located about 75 km north of Bangkok and is easily accessible by train or bus. Although the city's is completely surrounded by the broad Chao Phraya river and its branches, but bridges and small ferries makes it easy to cross the water. Hotels and restaurants in different price ranges are available.

Attractions
Ayutthaya historic center was originally a historical research center. Today, it´s more like a museum which displays models and reconstructions of the former capital.
Wat Ratchaburana is a temple complex in town. Like so much else here has Ratchaburana a very interesting story. Two royal sons fight for the throne is the motif to the temple once was built.
Wat Phra Sri Sanphet is a well preserved royal temple in the city's western part.
