About Surat Thani
Surat Thani is southern Thailand's largest province and it´s also the name of the province's largest city. The city is working as the gateway for travel from Bangkok to the southern parts of Thailand. This, because of the approximately 650-km-long railway linking the south to Bangkok. You can also fly here from the capital, or go by bus. The people of Surat Thani has a long tradition of fishing, extracting rubber from rubber plantations and coconut exports. Now is also the tourism industry a major source of income, not least in the province's islands.
The popular tourist destinations (and islands) Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao and Koh Nang Yuan belongs all to the province of Surat Thani on the mainland. Surat Thani means "the good peoples city."
