About Tak
In northern Thailand's mountainous landscape you find the province of Tak. The distance to Bangkok is 425 kilometer and trains daily operate the route. The train then (after a stop in Tak) continues to the neighboring country of Myanmar (Burma). Since several nearby provinces and neighboring country of Laos also can be reached by train from Tak, the province has become one of northern Thailand's communication centers.

In the town of Mae soot, near the Myanmar border, it's easy to get hold of handicraft products from the neighboring country. 60 kilometers north of the town of Tak you find the Mae Ping River which is one of Thailand's largest dam, Bhumibol. The nature area around the dam is very beautiful and you can rent rooms near by the water.

Ping river also plays an active role in the province's major light festival, Loi Krathong Sai. The festival takes place during the November full moon night, and locals gather with their boats on the river and forming an impressive light chain.
Attractions
Taksin Mahara is a national park located 25 kilometers from the town of Tak. This mountain area offers several high lookout sites, waterfalls and huge areas of forest. It´s possible to camp or sleep in bungalow.
